CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Crystal and glass are fragile, so extra care is needed when cleaning these beautiful handmade pieces.

Ensure that your Hurricane has cooled off completely before washing it or it might break due to extreme temperature changes. Wash the inside carefully with a soft sponge in lukewarm water using a mild detergent, rinsed thoroughly and dried with a lint-free cloth. Avoid using sharp objects, chemicals or extensive polishing as it may harm the finish.

Not dishwasher safe.

Do not expose the Hurricane Lamp to extreme temperature changes, for example, a lamp standing in the cold outside, a draft window or similar.

CHANGING THE CANDLE

Change the candle when it's 1 cm away from the holder, or it might harm the lamp. Remove the remains and clean your Hurricane, or simply place the new candle on top of still-hot remains and let them melt together.

For our larger Hurricanes, never force a candle into the candleholder. The inside candle holder is also glass and might crack if mistreated.

LIGHT YOUR CANDLE

We recommend paraffin candles rather than 100% stearin as paraffin
has a higher melting point and fits better in semi-closed environments.

Make sure that you place the candleholder straight on the surface, as it may harm the lamp.

Wax can sometimes drip down the side of the candle and collect at the base of the Hurricane, this is natural and will not harm your lamp.

If you need to remove wax, fill your Hurricane up to half with lukewarm water and a mild detergent, and let soak for 10 minutes. The wax will soften and can easily be removed with a wooden spoon or corkscrew.

For Small Classics, Soda and Candy & Regular Boule – use a standard tea light up to 35 mm in diameter

For Medium Hurricanes & Large Boule – use a tealight up to 5 cm in diameter or a safe standing block candle up to 6 cm.

For Large Hurricanes  – use a 15-20 cm high and 5 cm in diameter (or less) candle

For XL Hurricanes - use a 20-25 cm high and 8 cm in diameter (or less) candle

Make sure your tealight is standing centred in your Hurricane as the hot sides of the tealight can heat up the glass unevenly and cause cracks.

Never touch a burning candle and do not move your candle lantern when it is lit. If you place your candle lantern on a slippery surface, stick small self-adhesive small adhesive pads underneath. Always burn candles in a well-ventilated room and on a heat-resistant surface.

Do not leave a burning candle unattended.

Avoid drafts, vents, ceiling fans or other moving air pathways to encourage even  burning and minimize smoke or a flickering wick. Make sure a candle is completely extinguished before leaving the room.

Keep candles out of the reach of small children and pets.

Never burn a candle on or near anything that can catch fire.Never extinguish candles with water. Use care when extinguishing the candle; a short, directed puff of air aimed from a safe distance at each wick is usually sufficient.

For ultimate safety we recommend the use of a candle snuffer.

Do not move candles until the wax is cooled and set. Use caution as containers can be hot to the touch. Extinguish all candles before they are completely burned out.
